COMMUNITY UPDATE: COVID-19 (coronavirus)

Byron Farmers Market remains open. Under the government guidelines we are considered an essential food source so we are able to trade and will continue to do so for as long as we are advised it is safe.

We believe that offering our community access to fresh food (that hasn’t been handled by a large number of people) in an open-air environment is the responsible thing we can do during these unprecedented times. In fact, it is during times like these that we realise how crucial our local farmers’ markets are to both our community and local food security.

We take our social responsibility extremely seriously, so we have introduced a number of extra precautionary health and safety measures in the interests of our customers, stallholders, staff and the community as a whole. There will be hand-washing and hand-sanitizing stations distributed throughout the market for everyone’s use. Our stallholders will also have their own hand-washing facilities so they can sanitize after handling money. Our communal seating areas have been temporarily removed in an effort to reduce the potential risk of exposure to ANY virus.

We understand that traditionally the market has been a hub for our community to gather and spend time together, however this is not something we can responsibly support at the moment. Please be aware and considerate of those around you while shopping or waiting at a stall. We are all in this together. Finally, if you are unwell or have any symptoms of the virus (or have had contact with anyone who has symptoms) or have travelled overseas in the past 14 days, we ask that you not attend the market.

Please have a friend or family member collect your produce for you. We are also looking at the possibility of offering a veggie box order service for the elderly and immunocompromised. Stay tuned on this.

We appreciate your understanding and support.
